The Arts - Music

In November Year 1and 2 pupils had the opportunity to become African drummers. They even had to perform their drumming patterns on the Stage in the hall! This work was part of a partnership with Woldgate College (Performing Arts Status). It also links well with our Creative Contexts Project.

In November Mr Richard Simpkins, the community musician for Woldgate College, came to Bishop Wilton to teach some music lessons on Rhythm patterns. We filmed some of the work in school.

Mr Simpkins – Community Musician at Woldgate College - came to school to lead a very enjoyable music workshop with the infant children. They learned about rhythm patterns and enjoyed experimenting with sound on a range of authentic ethnic instruments

Wider Opportunities
Ms Lumb comes to school every Tuesday to teach all the junior pupils how to play the recorder. They have learnt a lot in a short period of time and are now able to improvise compositions around the notes b,c,d,a, and g. We are proud to say that 45% of our school pupils are now learning an instrument during school hours!

Music 4U
The junior children were invited to join in with an activity offered by Music4U of York. They were taught songs and playground games.
