Information for Parents - The Friends
of Bishop Wilton School All parents/guardians of
children attending school are automatically members of the
Friends of Bishop Wilton School Association. The primary
function of the Association is to raise funds to assist in many
areas of school life. For some years now the Friends have
tried to ensure that the fund-raising never becomes too onerous,
or puts unacceptable pressure on parents. With this in
mind we generally stick to two principles, first, that there
should never be more than one fund raising event per term, and
secondly whenever possible, all events are designed to be
enjoyable social occasions. Therefore, in recent years, our
activities have included a family barbeque with bouncy castle,
Christmas suppers, a champagne and strawberries evening with
quiz and a treasure hunt. Some functions have been so
popular, both with adults and children, that they have become
annual events, such as our Summer Fair which incorporates
quizzes, children's games and refreshments. The high regard in
which the local community holds the School is demonstrated by
the fact that all our social/fund raising occasions are well
supported by local residents, whether or not they have children
at the school. The money raised by the Friends is applied for
various purposes; in particular, it is used to pay for the
transport costs of each school trip the children undertake.
This means that every single child in the school benefits from
the money raised and also that our parents pay less for their
children's trips than most other primary schools. Further
information about the Friends of Bishop Wilton School can be
obtained from the committee Chairperson, Ruth Sampson, the
Treasurer, Suzanne Durie or the Secretary, Lisa Cardy, through
the School Office. Our next meeting to plan events for
2007/08 will be at the school on Tuesday 18th September 2007 at
7.30pm. As always, all parents are warmly invited to this
meeting. Anyone who cannot attend can contact any of the
above-named committee members to ensure their views are still
considered. |
