Foundation Stage for 3-5year olds
The Foundation Stage is a period of education from the age of 3
to 5 years.
"All children should be given the opportunity to experience
the very best possible start to their education",
Margaret Hodge Foundation Stage 2000
Children may experience the Foundation Stage in a variety of
places or settings. These include day nurseries, nursery
schools, pre- schools, playgroups, childminders in their own
home, early admission classes and reception classes in schools.
The Foundation Stage finishes at the end of the reception year
when children start National Curriculum at the beginning of Year
1.
The Foundation Stage is organised into six areas of learning:
-
Personal, social and emotional
development;
-
Communication, language and Literacy;
-
Mathematical development;
-
Knowledge and understanding of the world;
-
Physical development;
-
Creative development.
Early Learning Goals (ELGs)
For each Learning area there are Early Learning goals. Which we
hope most children will
have reached by the end of their reception year. Some children
will be working beyond these goals and greater challenges will
be set.
Some children may need extra help to work toward these ELGs.
How can I help my child during the
foundation stage?
Parents are the child's first teacher . The support and
encouragement you give your child throughout their life is
especially important during their early years.
Build up a close relationship with your child's setting so that
information, support, concerns and progress can be shared.
